No, this is not going to be a self-serving post why I talk about why you should hire me as a self-love and empowerment coach. I actually want to take this time to talk about what I’ve gained from coaching, and finding out from my readers how they have benefited from coaches in their lives.

I can say, for sure, that coaching has changed my life, for the way better.

When I started my new business, I really didn’t know anything. I didn’t even know what I didn’t know. I was just floundering around, trying to think of ways to build a successful business myself. At that time, I was an EFT (tapping) practitioner. I loved what I did, but I could tell that the business model I was using (similar to a massage therapist) wasn’t sustainable.

So first I got coaching on my money and success blocks. Boy was there a lot there! There still is some, but I’ve definitely released some major stuff.

Then I think that opened up for me the possibility that there was a lot more to the service I was providing than tapping alone. So I hired a business coach for coaches. I entered a year-long group  program, and that changed my life. I was actually introduced in an email to my business coach from the money coach – so one directly led to another.

In that year-long group coaching program, I learned so much. I created 5-week teleseminars, hosted a telesummit and have another one on the way, my subscriber list grew from 67 to 1,000, and I dramatically revamped how I offer my services that is by far in the better interests of my potential clients. And I have a clear direction of where I’m headed. (BTW, if you are a coach reading this and are interested in hearing some tips from my business coach, you can check out his free call here. It’s just content, no selling, and his year-long coach academy is super-reasonably priced.)

My business coach introduced me to a stress therapy coach who I’ve been working with for about two months. I didn’t even realize I had stress, seriously, I thought I was one of those people who was fine. Turns out that although I don’t have classic symptoms of stress, I do carry it in my body, and she has been great in helping me identify and release it. I can already tell so much of a difference in releasing old habits (like snacking) that were actually due to stress that I didn’t know I had.

And I have a tapping coach too to help me see what I need to tap on because it’s so hard to be objective when you are in the middle of it, even when you are an expert.

The point is, if I hadn’t found and hired coaches who were experts in their field, I imagine right now I would be thinking that I should be looking for a corporate job again. One that doesn’t excite me, that doesn’t serve anybody, that doesn’t help women lead better lives. And I’d be going along carrying stress in my body that would probably end up compromising my health.

So, my question is for you, have you had a coach and how is helped you? And/or if you haven’t, what areas of your life aren’t going so smoothly that you think would make sense to get coaching on?

  1. My first coach helped me see that I could become more than I ever dreamed. And then I met Suzanne Duret my current partner in ShowcasingWomen! What a blessing. So I loved your article, because having a coach changes everything!

  2. Great post, Amy. I learned a few years back that having a coach or coached is vital to having a business. You grow with your business and your business grows with you. Thanks!

  3. I loved this statement: “When I started my new business, I really didn’t know anything. I didn’t even know what I didn’t know”. Someone wrote that it takes 10,000 hours to reach success. And we really do need coaching and help to get there. The more we get, the fewer of those mistakes that we make. It’s a long road but worth it.

  4. Aimee, what has most amazed me is how different the online coaching world is from the offline consulting world I’ve thrived in for decades. (I still straddle the two.) You would think they were similar, yet they’re “so close and yet so far apart.” That’s probably what created the greatest resistance on my part and made me barely “coachable.” It took some time before I was willing to let the wall down far enough to take in what I was paying for!

  5. Oh I know what a good coach can do for you and that helping you see the big picture is so valuable! I my coach really helped me grow! I think we all need a coach and I don’t see me ever being without one!

  6. I have had a coach since day one of my business. I can’t recommend them enough. This is my third year in business and I’m on my third coach. I also think after a year, you have gotten as much benefit from one coach as you can and should reach for the next level!

  7. Aimee, I too have reaped the benefits of having been coached. I have to say that the experience of having the perspective of someone else who had “been there and done that” was priceless!

  8. Oh yeah, I love being coached and have learned so much by having one (or more) by my side. I’ve made some poor choices and there were times I seriously didn’t want to list. AND I became a coach because of the coaching I received!

  9. I think coaches are valuable, they are basically teachers in their field who have been there and know what works and doesn’t. I do a lot of social media coaching and people really appreciate that I make their life that much easier.

  10. Love to hear how different coaches can make different impacts! Coaching can touch so many aspects of our lives, as you have shown! Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.

  11. I love having a coach. It think it’s VITAL to success. You can’t expect to skate around the internet opting in for every person on the planet’s free classes and free training and then expect to fit all the pieces together yourself. You’ll always feel like ‘something is missing’ and you won’t figure it out. Folks really need to put some ‘skin in the game’ and invest in themselves if they really want to go to the next level 🙂 I mean, if YOU won’t invest in yourself… what makes you think others (clients) should???

  12. Yes, I have had a coach , and loved the experience! I think I improved in several ways, but the main area it was with self-confidence! When you have a coach the life is to learn, improve, and grow!

  13. I am in the process of working with a coach. It has been extremely difficult, and exciting. I am realizing that while I am great at helping others, I cant seem to see past my own nose when it comes to my own business.

Thank you for sharing, everyone should work with a coach.

  14. Excellent article! As a parenting coach I found your insights enlightening! I too have reached out to a mentor or coach in areas that I felt I needed guidance, and was always very glad I did!

  15. Great post – I love having a coach! I think it makes a huge difference. I’ve had different coaches over the last several years and recently hired a coach specifically to help me use express my creativity and unique gifts and talents to take my business to the next level – we really connected and I really took time to interview her to make sure she would be a good fit for me and really get me (didn’t do that the first few times – not a good experience!) I had a coaching mentor once say that in order to be a great coach, you need to have a coach!

  16. This is an excellent post Aimee! It’s so true that in the beginning as coaches (I’m also an EFT practitioner!) we tend to flounder and not be aware of the need to get solid coaching right from the start. Congratulations on your successes.

  17. Great article sharing the value you’ve received from numerous coaches along your business journey. I, too have had a few coaches. The first online coach taught me many basics such as how to set up a blog, how to write a blog post and my education in…shall we say, Business 101 began. I learned many good things and some tough lessons that I’d rather not discuss. My second coach added another layer in a different arena of business, all very necessary to my growth and that of my business. My third coach provided the missing piece of the puzzle. My point is, that I’ve discovered for myself is this…business growth is a journey, the same as in life. Enjoy each chapter and learn and grow to successful profits and true happiness in your freedom as a working woman, business owner.

  18. I believe that coaching is invaluable. In the seasons that I have had coching I have thrived far better and with less stress and strain trying to Google and learn everything on my own…that becomes lonely, exhausting and burnout begins….

  19. Aimee–Thanks for sharing your story and your process with us. Great going! I had many years of therapy and have used a coach a bit with my business. It was very helpful!

  20. I have never really had a formal coach in all the years I’ve been online. Until now. Just last week I started in a group coaching program, and so far have learned more about running a business in that week than I learned in 15 years before that.

  21. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about getting some guidance through coaching. Thank you for sharing this Aimee, your post just confirmed that for me!

  22. Having a coach does change everything. I have used coaches in both my personal and professional life for years. I love the results I get!

  23. Gotta love the value of a great coach. And it’s amazing what coaching services people provide. I think most coaches have to “live it” or know the industry/service they provide, but not always. My favorite example is the great college football coach Lou Holz. He never played college football! (I think he sang in the choir.)
