So if you could have started something 5 years ago, what do you wish you would have done?

A healthier lifestyle? Pottery classes? A new job/business? A degree?

If you HAD gone ahead and done it, where would you be now? Off some medications and having more energy? A career you are passionate about? Having your first pottery exhibition?

Can you remember why you didn’t start it back then? What were your reasons? Too busy? Waiting until __________? Maybe you can’t remember. It just didn’t seem to work out.

Well I’ve got great news for you…You can start it now! Because before you know it, 5 years will be gone by and you will be where you want to be. Remember 2008 and the financial meltdown, doesn’t seem that long ago, does it? Well pretty soon it’s going to be 2018 and you can be where you want to be.

I remember talking to a friend and he was considering going to school for nursing at the age of 33. But he said, but when I finish in 5 years, I’ll be 38. I asked him, How old will you be in 5 years if you don’t go to nursing school? He realized not doing something now because of his age didn’t make sense. He didn’t end up going to nursing school, but he did take action on another career he was interested in, working in development in sub-saharan Africa. Because of that action, earlier this year he was hired as one of 10 people out of 300 to begin their career in the Belgian Foreign Ministry (their Department of State) as an attache, a very tough job to get. Don’t you think he is glad now that he started on his goal 5 years ago instead of putting it off?

Sunlight in Spring ForestI’ll end with one of my absolute favorite proverbs: “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the second best time is now.”

So let us know over at the blog what you may have put off 5 (or 10) years ago, the reason you didn’t (if you had a specific one), and what you can start today so that in 5 years you can look back and feel good about it.
